This is our Uncle Finn.
He was an amazing human who left us too early. He was a collector, a book store owner, a prolific poet, a traveler, a hippie, a natural health enthusiast, a seeker of knowledge, a professional conversationalist, a comedian, a lifelong bachelor, a dedicated son, the life of the party, a friend you can count on, he was many things to many people ...but to us, he was Uncle Fun.
Finn owned and operated a book store on 12st in New Westminster BC for over 30 years. In the early 80s he also had a second location that primarily sold records and comics, on Columbia Street in New Westminster. We have so many memories from both stores, but especially the one on Columbia Street as for us it was also our first job!
Finn knew his beloved collection of books, records, stamps and comics would all be left behind when he passed. All he asked of us was to please hang on to the comics, he couldn't bare the thought of his comics going for 10 cents on the dollar or worse.
We promised and had them stored away for these last 10 years.
This year my sister and I decided to make a big shift in order to make our dreams of owning land on the west coast a reality. We plan to buy a parcel of land to build a fully sustainable and off grid capable family homestead and wellness retreat.
Last Christmas while brainstorming on ways to raise capital for our dream we both realized we had it in storage all this time!
We created Uncle Fun's Comic Shop and started to sell on eBay.

Sell raw comics for a decent price.
Far enough below fair market value that people would be thrilled with their purchase, and we wouldn't have to barter (something neither of us enjoy), and high enough that we weren't 'dumping' them to keep our promise to Uncle Finn.
And the response? Magic!!
Since the summer we have two events under our belt and our brand is growing. The comic community has been incredibly welcoming and helpful.
Lisa has now retired as a Dental Hygienist after 27 years and moved in with Tamara and her family in White Rock BC . Tamara is a Health and Life Coach, and already worked from home, so setting up shop together was quick and smooth. The best part of it all is discovering how well we work together, and how much we actually love comics.
